When we heard the tale of a craft brewery in Norway that is almost single-handedly introducing ‘beer culture’ to their country, we were keen to find out more. In our search for new and exciting beers this was the first time we had ventured to Scandinavia.
Nøgne Ø were that uncompromising brewery and the rumours we had heard about their remarkable beers were all true. Before the launch of Nøgne Ø in 2002, it was fair to say that most of Norway hadn’t even heard of the beers they were planning on brewing, let alone tasted a Porter, India Pale Ale, Saison or Imperial Stout (thanks in no small part to the country-wide ban on advertising alcohol).

We chose just six beers from their impressive range, but quickly discovered that the interest in these was far greater than we could have imagined and now make available on special order the complete year-round collection (both in bottles and on draught), as well as a number of their amazing
seasonal offerings.
The brewery is certainly proving it’s mettle, with sales up 50% last year and already 120% up this year. Where the majority of their beer was once for export, Nøgne Ø is now being widely appreciated in it’s home land. To find out more, talk to the team at James Clay or visit the Nøgne Ø website.
