Anchor BrewingAnchor Brewing has played a significant role in San Francisco's history and their unique beers are all produced in one of the most traditional and handsome breweries in the USA - each brew made from an all-malt mash in their handcrafted copper brew house. Anchor Steam'The classic of American brewing tradition since 1896', Anchor Steam has a bronze colour with a thick creamy head. The palate is full and malty with a beautiful bitter hop aroma - a unique beer universally recognised as a world classic that traces back to the Gold Rush era. Liberty AleFirst introduced in 1975, Liberty Ale is brewed with a top-fermenting ale yeast, responsible for many of the subtle flavours and characteristics. Dry-hopping imparts a unique aroma to the ale. Anchor PorterA unique dark brew which uses specially roasted malts, a top-fermenting yeast and only fresh whole hops. All this combines to produce a rich and intense flavour with subtle notes of chocolate, toffee, and coffee. Anchor Old FoghornA strong barley wine, dry hopped throughout the maturation period of some 6 months. Although the yeast is unable to ferment all sugars out of any beer at this strength the hop flavours make a balanced brew ideal for sipping after dinner. You may not know, but...The origins of the name steam beer is shrouded in mystery. One explaination being that extra yeast was added to barrels before being shipped up the Sacramento River; this caused added fermentation on route and a gush of foam on tapping the kegs resembling steam.
