cigar city’s home state of florida has always been a crossroads, with tampa smack bang in the middle. A place where European tradition meets vibrant Latin culture. Somewhere enterprise and ingenuity can thrive in the sunshine. By the turn of the 20th century, Tampa was Cigar City. The world’s tobacco capital. All Hecho a Mano. All made by hand.

Where there’s people, there’s beer, and brewing boomed too. Beer to feed troops and factory workers. Florida beer with a tropical skew. Crisp German-style lagers to cut through the heat and humidity. But times change. Out went the industry, in came the tourism. Cigars were swapped for cruise ships.

Today, Cigar City Brewing is the inheritor of these traditions. Named for the city’s industrious past, and imbued with the spirit of enterprise. Since 2007, the brewery has been a place where talented people are free to pursue their passion.

And how the beer has flowed. Beers that reflect the ingredients and sensibilities of Florida, like Cubano-style Espresso Brown Ale, or Jai Alai IPA, full of tangerine and orange. Named after a historic ball game from Spain’s Basque region which used to thrive on Tampa’s waterfront, the IPA is pronounced with an ‘H’ rather than a ‘J’. So it’s Hi-uh-Lie, and of course it’s all Hecho a Mano.

Maduro

Maduro

Style: Brown Ale
ABV: 5.5%

Maduro is a Northern English-style Brown Ale with some American affectations. Higher in alcohol than the common English Brown Ale, the beer features flaked oats in the malt bill which imparts a silky body and works to mesh its roasted, toasted and chocolate components together. The end result is a remarkably full-flavored yet approachable Brown Ale that pairs well with mild to medium cigars.
